Our hard-to-please group ranged from a 2-year-old to an 85-year-old. The Richardson House delighted everyone -- the 9-year-old twins, the architectural fiend grandma, the grandpa with semi-restricted mobility, even the toddler sledding down the stairs on his belly (don't worry, we kept an eye on him). Close enough to Squaw for the skiers among us, easy strolling distance to retail therapy for the less athletically inclined. Chelsea, the manager, is amazing -- a font of historical and local info, and a really lovely person. The kitchen is eminently usable -- we cooked every night -- and we had ample towels, dishware, etc. This is a far cry from a spartan ski condo -- if you appreciate lovely historic homes, you'll love it.
My friends and I rented this house for our annual winter ski trip. The house simply put is beautiful! We felt as if we stepped back in time 100 years! However, the house has all new amenities such as a large, well stocked kitchen with new appliances and updated showers (almost each bedroom as a private bath). There were also nice modern surprises such a wireless speakers that could be moved from room to room and two flat screen TVs. These were all well hidden in the century all furniture :-).
I recommend this house to anyone looking for a a great time with their friends or family. Also anyone looking to ski at Squaw which is a very short ride away.
The Richardson house is a wonderful and beautifully restored Victorian. My good friend had the great fortune to rent the entire house for his birthday. I have never been in Truckee before, but will definitely come again. Thank you for letting us experience one of the nicest homes in the area.
This is a perfect place for a family get-together. We spent the week between Christmas and New Year's Day at the Richardson House and enjoyed every minute. We were a large group and filled every bedroom but there was plenty of room to relax and socialize in the common areas. We cooked a lot of our meals so we appreciated that the kitchen was beautifully equipped with none of the tired hand-me-downs usually found in vacation rentals. When we didn't want to cook, all kinds of restaurants were just a block away on Truckee's main street. It was also a very short walk to the bus stop for the city bus to Northstar. Great for the skiers in our group who never had to worry about parking on the mountain.
Chelsea saw to every detail and made us feel so welcome. And, it was nice to know that Jim was nearby in case something went wrong. (It didn't!) Thank you!
What an absolutely beautiful house. It is a perfect balance of Victorian decor and modern convenience. A wonderful place to relax and get away for the weekend but it's also close to home. We will definitely be back.
The Richardson was a wonderful place to spend the night. It was like stepping back in time but with all of the comforts of home. Meticulous attention to every lovely detail, a warm welcome from the care taker and the coziest beds to sleep in made for a relaxing and very special evening away from home.
I love the Richardson House. The claw-foot bathtub was my best friend after a day of performing in Trails & Vistas Art Hike. The kitchen has everything - and everything in perfect condition. The parlor was the perfect place to unwind and reflect as a group.
The Richardson House had a great influence on our stay in Truckee - putting everyone in a great mood, feeling special.
Thanks!

We enjoyed one of our best vacations ever at the Richardson House over the holidays!! The House has been beautifully restored and is maintained in impeccable shape by Chelsea and Jim. We cannot say enough about how welcome they made us feel.
Although the house is stunning, it is also a warm and wonderful place to be. Our gratitude to the owners who have opened their home to us and especially to Chelsea and Jim who made our stay so memorable.
We hope to return and thank you all!!
We recently had our rehearsal dinner and wedding at the Richardson House. It was the best venue for a wedding! It was affordable, allowed us to be surrounded by family from out of state, intimate, yet roomy. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are wonderful! The kitchen was fully equipped to allowed us to have our wedding cakes made on sight!
The grounds are gorgeous and Chelsea helped us with every little question, from parking to needing a hand mixer!
We cannot thank the Richardson House staff and owners for making our special day absolutely wonderful.
Dear Friends,
Thank you for making our stay at The Richardson House such a remarkable treat. Our family reunion was absolutely a joy and everyone was enraptured by the beauty, inside and out. Afternoon talks on the gazebo, chats in the kitchen, reminiscing in the family room, and talks at dinner talks were all made more wonderful by the house's beautiful charm. Our favorite part was sitting on the front porch overlooking the glorious Sierra range and the quaint little town of Truckee.
Everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible was there. Three of my relatives were over 90 years old and the convenient disabled access room was perfect. Rex's Rumpus room was a huge hit for the kids and the upstairs rooms all allowed for the most comfortable night sleeps.
Thank you for making our stay perfect. The Richardson House is truly magical!
My family and I stayed at The Richardson House over the Winter. What a wonderful experience staying in this Victorian house up the hill and over-looking the one of America's great mountain towns, Truckee, California. I'm a sucker for unique, older places that are pieces of history and The Richardson House fully fits that bill. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere fulfilled the needs of everyone in my family. We had a wonderful time.... You will too!
We stayed at the Richardson House during a ski trip out west. The house is so lovely and like stepping back in time (with all the modern conveniences of today). The beds were dreamy and we loved the location - so close to fun shops and restaurants!
My wife and I returned home after a nice visit to the Richardson House, and I said to her “Honey what would it take to get our bed to feel that cozy and give me the deep rest that the bed at The Richardson House did?"
Staying at the Richardson House was a truly memorable experience with its rich history, gorgeously restored antiques, utterly divine location, and superior staff. Walking to and from town for coffee, dinner or simply a nice stroll added to the beauty of the stay since we were able to experience Truckee’s history and cultural aspects without getting in car – a true plus in our books! Tip: Don’t miss luxuriating in the sun on the settee in the front window downstairs with your morning coffee while watching the town go about its business.
The Richardson House is a treat. It's the absolute best, and in my opinion, the only way to see Truckee. With a view overlooking the town, yet close enough to walk to dinner and shopping, this house has it all.
It's got the charm and decor of an old house with modern amenities such as remodeled bathrooms and comfortable beds. If I could have fit a bed and the sheets in my luggage, I would have. The worst part about this house is the kitchen is so great you almost feel guilty for eating in town where you are close enough to walk to the best nachos I ever had, a killer omelet and fine dining that compares to any big city. The house is so great you almost feel guilty for leaving and going skiing. The porch is so great you feel guilty for not hanging out there all day. I loved my stay, and my family actually got along in this house, so I'm convinced this house has a good and calming vibe.
The Richardson House was a delectable treat and a captivating glimpse of what old Truckee once was.
I love The Richardson House. It's a beautiful place in a beautiful location. Thank you for making my visits absolutely perfect!
